block recommendation

(@)jmichael(@)todon.nl for being a racist reply guy.

We had to delete and repost the shitpost we made because wow, this guy is racist.

First off, "solving crimes in the city" has nothing to do with our shitpost about snuggling girls.

Second, the "in the city" part is literally racist because it implies that crime in cities is purely an enforcement problem and not a systemic racial inequality problem.

We reported the guy, so hopefully todon.nl will ban him, but this is in case that doesn't happen and/or in the meantime while waiting on that ban.

The funniest (i.e. in a sarcastic sense) is that he's a self-proclaimed "activist against totalitarian policing", according to his pinned toot.

The "totalitarian" qualifier is really telling. Apparently he's not against police as an institution, just against "totalitarian" police.

Because the institution of policing isn't itself totalitarian, only certain people in it, right?

Anyone like this guy that believes that "there's only a few bad apples" in spite of the sheer amount of evidence that the *entire system* is rotten and totalitarian is someone we hope to never see at any of the activism things we participate in.

And it's because they're the exact kind of person that would sabotage the peaceful protest by antagonizing the police in order to provide them with an excuse to start mowing down swaths of innocent people.

Gonna have to expand this block recommendation to the entirety of todon(.)nl because this is what the admin thought of someone suggesting we should police cities.

Basically, they're taking the F-Droid route. "Direct proof" only, while coded bigotry is perfectly fine.

Their choice of action, btw, was to give the person a warning for replying off topic, which they can at least admit is harassment.

Not a warning or ban for being racist, but a warning for replying off topic.

We told them how the lack of action showed that they were creating an unsafe environment for us and our friends.

Their reply:

"I'm sorry you think our server is unsafe."

You know, that whole "It's all in your head" gaslighting gets old *really* fast.

So, yeah. Bigots gotta stick together, I guess.

@KitsuneAlicia basically the same thing they said when confronted on other specific moderation decisions around ableism and kink.

@starfall Wow. Uhh, that second one...

"Remember that we are in Europe, and not in the US, so sometimes the context is not immediately clear to us."

All the more reason to actually listen to the people who are living through this stuff every day, wouldn't you think?

But nope, they insist that they know better than our own lived experiences.

@KitsuneAlicia Yeah. The moderation decisions themselves we can look at and say, okay, maaaaybe there's a way this was done in good faith and they're just really ill-informed. But then as soon as anyone tries to talk to them about it, the abuse comes out.

I think their response to the things we posted was muting everyone involved and saying it was all false accusations.
