The only difference between soup and sauce is intent.

@Sapphicgiraffic @monorail

the only difference between sauce/soup and beverages is the container

@mal @monorail I will drink my tea out of soup pot and you can’t stop me.

@Sapphicgiraffic @monorail

all you're doing is revealing how trivial even that distinction is

@mal @Sapphicgiraffic @monorail if popcorn shapes itself to fit the container it's in, does that mean popcorn is 1. a liquid and 2. also a soup?

@Irina @mal @monorail Popcorn is not a soup, but if you drizzle butter over it, then it’s a salad, which is soup-adjacent.

@Irina @mal @monorail a food transitions between salad, stew, and soup by adjusting the size of the chunks and the ratio of liquid to solid ingredients.

Here we are understanding “soup” to mean the category of foods in the soup/sauce/beverage intersection.

I should probably make a diagram....

@Sapphicgiraffic @mal @monorail please do, this is amazing

also sauce is definitely a beverage. source: that one time i drank spaghetti sauce from a glass

@Irina @kara_dreamer @mal @monorail depends on how you mean that. If we define “spaghetti” as “dish consisting of spaghetti noodles with red gravy, perhaps with meat in the sauce and perhaps served with meatballs” then it would tend to argue for no, but it also depends on who’s eating it. The scale of the dish in relation to the eater matters. We also have to define “sandwich” in this context. ->

@Sapphicgiraffic @Irina @kara_dreamer @mal you tooted this half an hour ago, implying it was part one

part two is going to be a fucking novel

@monorail @Irina @kara_dreamer @mal lol I’ve been replying to different branches of this and other threads. I need to take a short break to recover, then I’ll get back to this. Poke me if I forget.
